If you are using Outlook Express, you will need to install the Alertia Control Panel and set it up to dismiss Outlook Express Alerts. (Future versions of Outlook Express may not require this but as of version 4.0.1 it is required to work properly with Email Checker.)
This is necessary because Outlook Express displays an alert modal dialog box that says "Mail could not be received at this time. A connection failure has occurred." This dialog box does not go away until you click OK. It does this whenever mail cannot be read (the mail server is down for example). The problem is that if you are using Email Checker to check your mail when you are not at the computer, it will not check mail again until you click OK.
Alertia closes the alert window for you.
Install the Alertia Control Panel in your Control Panels folder then re-boot.
Open the Alertia Control Panel and set the default settings to Timeout After Never. Then drag the Outlook Express icon into the Alertia window. It will create a settings for Outlook Express. Change the timeout to 2 minutes (or whatever time you would like). Note that all Outlook Express Alerts will be closed after this timeout period.
